  1. The detail that piqued my interest is the legend of Romulus.
I am interested in learning about why this particular myth is used to tell the story of the beginning of Rome instead of facts.

    1. Hi Melissa, this was also my first choice for a topic. I wanted to choose this topic because I am curious as to how some groups of people chose to believe legends over facts.

  2. The piece of information that piqued my curiosity is being a Roman citizen. If you are a slave you're not a Roman citizen but I wonder can a slave become a citizen under certain circumstances? Can one move up and down on the social hierarchies?

    1. Hi Peiling,

      This is interesting.

I believe slaves were considered Roman property under the law. So it is intriguing that they could not become Roman citizens since they are owned by the Romans. Moreover, as slaves, they helped to build or upkeep the city and so I wonder if it was set up this way to keep the slaves from enjoying the privileges of a Roman citizen.

  3. After watching the film Quo Vadis and this video, I became to wonder how did exactly the transition from polytheistic to monotheistic religion occurred. I would like to learn more about the belief in many Gods as well as to learn some new information about the belief that only one God exists.

    1. I am very interested in the transition from polytheistic to monotheistic religion as well. As someone who grew up being taught there was only one god, I am fascinated to learn now about the Ancient Greek and Roman gods. I'm also curious as track the differences and when it comes to Western verses Eastern religions.

    2. Hi Kristina, I am interested in transition of polytheistic to monotheistic religion as well. Prior watching Quo Vadis, I did not realize, how much suffering early Christians had to go through. But the fact, that they were able to make monotheistic religion so widespread is truly impressive.

  4. I am very interested in the Mythras, or Sun God religion. I am curious as to their beliefs and what was specifically meaningful about the date of Dec. 25th to them, and how Christianity justified taking over that date as historically their own.

  5. One detail that piqued my interest was the Roman inventing the Res Publica. I am very curious about the transition period between monarchy and this new form of government as I imagine it was very difficult/confusing for the citizens of Rome. I am also curious about how exactly it was put into place and carried out.

I was also interested in in Res Publica, but more so in the fact that the U.S. form of government is similar in its public influences. I also correlate that traditional republican values and valors are abandoned as Rome/ U.S become more powerful.

  6. I am very interested in Roman ancient architecture such as the Greek Temples in Paestum. This is the testimony of history. It is the best preserved Greek site in Italy. In the future, I want to visit there and feel the history culture.

    1. Hi Qian, I feel the same way. I would love to see the Colosseo in Rome where the people used to fight.

I never knew the Common era is traditionally known as the year Jesus was born. A question I do have is why would it be said Jesus was crucified before the year 55 when it is know he was 36 years of age when he died?

  8. I want to learn more about constitution. I never new about Twelve Tables, and the fact that there was a set of rules, that established principles of democracy. I believe, that nowadays were are using democracy very differently and at different scale. I would love to know about original ideas and reasoning behind it.

  9. It was quite interesting when the video mentions that Christianity arrived in Rome as a derivative of Judaism. I would like to learn more of how Judaism followers converted to a different religion with alternate beliefs.
